Project REAL currently serves grades 3-12 with at least one unique law and civics related experience for each grade level. All of our activities are valuable on their own, but when received annually and sequentially they have a significantly greater impact on the students being served. As part of our ongoing efforts to expand and evolve our organization, we plan to eventually offer a full 13-year program of annual educational experiences for students in grades K-12.
Of the roughly 550,000 students enrolled in grades K-12 throughout Nevada, roughly 90% will not learn anything about laws, consequences of breaking laws, their rights, or how to use those rights in their classrooms. A select 10% of those students will be able to participate in magnet programs and elective classes that will cover those topics. For a fortunate 16,000 students each year – 4.5% of students enrolled throughout Nevada – there will be Project REAL.
Nevada may not require students to learn about laws the way they are required to learn about history, science, or mathematics. Still, laws are the rules students need to know in order to successfully navigate their way to and through adulthood. That is why Project REAL provides all of our resources for free to the families and classrooms we are able to serve in Nevada. As Project REAL receives greater support, the percentage of students that go without this vital education in Nevada will continue to decrease, until the day comes when 100% of students are receiving law related education in school each year.
